Description
Hardback. Third impression. Historical fiction written and illustrated by Cynthia Harnett. Charming story of a group of children trying to save the Princess Elizabeth (Elizabeth Tudor) in the years of her half-sister’s Mary’s reign. Set at the still extant Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire, Woodstock and London. Sulgrave Manor was the home of the Washington family whose children feature here. The family really existed and their descendants include George Washington, the first president of the United States. The family’s coat of arms is the stars and bars. The family are also related to the Spencers of Althorp, ancestors of the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Illustrated with line drawings throughout showing scenes from the book and many domestic items and architectural features that you can still see if you visit the manor house. Illustrated plan to endpapers.
